South Africa’s expropriation battle is unfolding both inside the Constitutional Court and on the ground in Nelson Mandela Bay, where the ANC-led coalition has celebrated a controversial land acquisition as a victory for expropriation without compensation.
In this video, I examine the Kleinskool housing project, the municipality’s attempt to transfer privately owned land to informal-settlement residents, and allegations that the process proceeded without a comprehensive land audit, proper valuation or sufficient deeds-office investigation. Could this become an important test case for property rights and the limits of the South African Constitution?
We also look at new polling showing ANC support among black voters falling to 35.8%, while MK and the EFF continue competing for the same electorate. With Patrice Motsepe emerging as a popular prospective ANC leader, are voters rejecting the National Democratic Revolution in favour of a more business-friendly alternative?
Is the ANC accelerating land expropriation and the NHI because its electoral support is collapsing—or will increasingly radical policies help it recover disillusioned rural voters before the next election?
