A new Johannesburg election poll points to a potential political landslide—and serious trouble for the ANC ahead of the next local government elections.
According to polling discussed in this video, the DA currently leads Johannesburg with 42% support, followed by the ANC on just 18%. The MK Party stands at 13%, ActionSA at 10%, and the EFF at 8%. Even after accounting for the poll’s reported 4.4% margin of error, the DA would remain comfortably ahead of the ANC.
But is this evidence of a broader DA comeback, or is Johannesburg experiencing the “Helen Zille effect”?
In this video, I examine the latest Johannesburg polling data, Helen Zille’s campaign strategy, the ANC’s collapsing connection with ordinary voters and the growing frustration caused by water shortages, electricity failures, potholes and deteriorating municipal services. I also consider whether the DA could assemble a governing coalition with smaller parties and take control of South Africa’s largest city.
Could Johannesburg finally remove the ANC from power—and what lessons should South Africa’s political parties learn from these results?
