Summary:
After a long week, I look at Ramaphosa’s fight to stop Parliament’s public Phala Phala impeachment hearings. The ATM, EFF, MK Party and committee chair want the Constitutional Court to overturn his interdict, while Ramaphosa says it is only a temporary delay until his review is heard from 2–4 September. Parliament’s own legal advice also says he can be forced to testify under Section 56.
I then cover Colin Coleman’s prediction that ANC support could fall to around 32% in the local elections, with the DA on about 25%, potentially changing control of the metros and the GNU. The DA is already targeting Johannesburg with a major manifesto rally led by Helen Zille, while Nelson Mandela Bay’s unstable ANC-led coalition has begun expropriating private land without compensation for a housing development.
