Russian influencers are selling a dream, but the reality is a nightmare. Smooth Instagram ads, soft lighting, and promises of “education opportunities” in Russia are being pushed at young South African women. But behind those filtered posts lies a brutal truth: you are not going to study, you are going to build drones for a war. The so-called Start program, located in Russia’s Alabuga Special Economic Zone, is recruiting women from 32 countries—South Africa included—into what is increasingly being exposed as a front for military labour. Inside the drone factories, testimonies describe inhumane conditions: 12-hour shifts, toxic chemicals, unpaid overtime, psychological pressure, and almost no freedom to leave. Leaked internal documents paint a picture of a system designed to trap foreign recruits in a cycle of dependency and coercion. Even South Africa’s own Deputy Minister of Justice has publicly raised the alarm, warning that these “job offers” show clear red flags for labour exploitation and trafficking. Influencers who once promoted the program are now backpedaling and apologising as the scale of the scandal becomes impossible to hide. This video exposes everything—government warnings, leaked files, testimonies, and Russia’s long history of using foreign labour to fuel its war machine. If you are a young South African woman, or you know one, you cannot ignore what’s happening. Watch, share and help stop our sisters from being recruited into a war they never signed up for.
